This paper presents dependence of the stress intensity factor, around the defect in the butt joint welding of a superconducting conductor conduit, on a geometrical factor estimated by fracture mechanics analysis. The stress intensity factor can be estimated by the Newman-Raju equation about CICC section, but the effect of the difference between the geometry assumed in the equation and CICC has not been clarified yet. Therefore, the three-dimensional finite element method (3D-FEM) is performed to estimate the geometrical factor. As a result, the Newman-Raju equation is considered to be available for the assessment of the fracture toughness of the conduit of rectangular shape because the maximum stress intensity factor by 3-D FEM is only 3% larger than that by the Newman-Raju equation in the maximum postulated defect.

Novel pressure phase diagram of heavy fermion superconductor CePt$$_{3}$$Si investigated by ac calorimetry

The pressure dependences of the antiferromagnetic and superconducting transition temperatures have been investigated by ac heat capacity measurement under high pressures for the heavy-fermion superconductor CePt$$_3$$Si without inversion symmetry in the tetragonal structure. The N$'e$el temperature $$T_{rm N}$$ = 2.2 K decreases with increasing pressure and becomes zero at the critical pressure $$P_{rm AF}$$ $$simeq$$ 0.6 GPa. On the other hand, the superconducting phase exists in a wider pressure region from ambient pressure to about 1.5 GPa. The pressure phase diagram of CePt$$_3$$Si is thus very unique and has never been reported before for other heavy fermion superconductors.

Theory of transport properties in the $$p$$-wave superconducting state of Sr$$_2$$RuO$$_4$$; A Microscopic determination of the gap structure

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 74(6), p.1818 - 1829, 2005/06

We provide a detailed quantitative analysis of transport properties in the $$p$$-wave superconducting state of Sr$$_2$$RuO$$_4$$. Specifically, we calculate ultrasound attenuation rate and electronic thermal conductivity within the mean field approximation. The momentum dependence of the gap function is determined by solving the Eliashberg equation for a three-band Hubbard model with the realistic electronic structure of Sr$$_2$$RuO$$_4$$. Consequently, we obtain the temperature dependence of the transport coefficients in agreement with the experimental results.

Electromagnetic phenomenon in superconducting magnet for fusion facility; Forced flow superconducting magnet

Hamada, Kazuya; Koizumi, Norikiyo

Purazuma, Kaku Yugo Gakkai-Shi, 78(7), p.616 - 624, 2002/07

In the Tokamak type fusion reactor design, a forced flow superconducting coil is applied from the viewpoint to high magnetic field, high withstand voltage performance and large electromagnetic force. In the forced flow magnets, it is well known that various electromagnetic phenomena are occurred by zero resistance and diamagnetic effect of superconductor and complicated structure of cable in conduit conductor (CICC). In the R&D of CICC, the study of hysteresis losses and coupling losses CICC have a lot of progress. For example, using the optimization of filament arrangement in superconducting strand and control of contact resistance of strand, ITER model coil project have a large achievement.
